FAQs

We frequently get asked a lot of questions, so we’ve answered the most common ones here to save you the trouble!

SALES

Do you deliver?

A driven delivery is available at £1 per mile with a £50 minimum charge and still includes a detailed handover experience. Trailered delivery is available, but this is significantly more expensive, worse for the environment and carried out by a 3rd party meaning no Wisely handover.

Do you buy i3s as well?

Absolutely! To sell them, we need to buy them in the first place! If you are looking to sell a BMW i3, feel free to send us a message via the Contact Us page and we’ll promptly let you know if its of interest. We are particularly keen to buy late-plate, low-owner examples with a high level of specification.

Are your cars right hand drive?

Yes! The renders used on our adverts accurately demonstrate the colour-ways and options of the vehicles we sell, but show LHD interiors. Rest assured that all the cars we sell are right hand drive UK market vehicles!

WARRANTY

What warranty do you provide?

In 2020, we launched our own in-house warranty after years of constantly being let down by various 3rd party warranty providers. We took things into our own hands, and created Wisely Covered which is written specifically with BMW i3s in mind and offers what we feel is a level of cover which matches (and in many ways surpasses) a manufacturer’s Approved Used Car warranty. To view a copy of our policy wording, drop us a message.

How much warranty do I get?

All our BMW i cars are covered for 6 months by our Wisely Covered warranty. Extensions to 12 and 24 months are available at additional cost.

Is your Wisely Covered warranty available for cars purchased elsewhere?

At present, our in-house warranty is only available on cars purchased from Wisely Automotive, however we are working on a solution for 3rd party vehicles. More information will be shared in due course.

MOBILESERVICE

What is the cost of using Wisely’s MobileService?

Unlike many garages, we operate a transparent fixed-price model for the vast majority of servicing and maintenance work.

This means that in most cases you can see exactly what a job will cost before booking, without needing to request a quote or wait for an inspection.

The total cost of a MobileService booking is typically made up of:

  • The fixed price for the work being carried out.
  • A Distance Fee, based on where the vehicle is located.
  • Any additional parts or repairs requested beyond the original booking.

Our Distance Fee is charged per vehicle and helps cover the costs of operating a nationwide mobile service, including fuel, vehicle running costs, technician travel time and, where necessary, overnight accommodation.

Whilst we may not always be the cheapest option, many customers are surprised by how competitive our pricing is when compared with main dealers and local garages. As specialist BMW i3 technicians, we also benefit from years of experience and model-specific knowledge that many general garages simply do not have. By focusing primarily on one vehicle, we know the common faults, recurring issues and known weak points to look for, and can often identify problems that other workshops — including main dealers — may not even realise are present. We’ve also learnt the lessons that come with years of hands-on experience, so we’re far less likely to be snapping clips, removing components incorrectly or spending unnecessary time working out procedures on your car. That expertise has real value and can often save both time and money. In some cases, we can also source the exact same components used by BMW directly from the original manufacturer, helping to keep costs sensible without compromising quality.

If you cannot find the service or repair you require, please contact us and we will be happy to help.

Do you only carry out servicing?

No! Routine servicing is just part of what we do. Our MobileService technicians can carry out a wide range of repairs, maintenance and diagnostic work on BMW i3s, including brakes, suspension, heating and air conditioning repairs, electrical faults, charging issues, drivetrain faults, diagnostics and general maintenance.

One of the advantages of using Wisely MobileService is that our vans are fully stocked with both routine and more unusual BMW i3 parts. As a result, we can often complete additional work during the same visit, whether identified in advance or discovered during a routine service (time permitting).

There are a few areas where we generally cannot help. We do not fit tyres, carry out bodyshop repairs or undertake paintwork. As a rule of thumb, if the issue involves scratched, dented or damaged paint, you’d be better off approaching a local bodyshop. However, we can often replace damaged non-painted components such as headlights, mirror housings and exterior trim.

We also do not currently undertake high-voltage battery repairs or battery module replacement work, although in some cases we can diagnose battery-related faults and advise on the most appropriate next steps.

If you’re unsure whether we can help, simply send us some photos and a brief description of the issue and we’ll happily advise.

Why is the Distance Fee charged per vehicle?

Our MobileService is a nationwide operation and works very differently to a traditional local mobile mechanic.

Technicians’ schedules are often planned months in advance, with bookings carefully batched together by area and route. The collective sum of the Distance Fees collected each day helps cover the costs of delivering that service, including fuel, vehicle wear and tear, technician travel time and, in many cases, overnight hotel accommodation.

For this reason, the Distance Fee is charged per vehicle booked rather than per journey or per address. Each vehicle occupies its own booking slot within the technician’s schedule and contributes towards the overall cost of operating the route that day. In practice, two vehicles at one address are treated no differently to two vehicles located a few miles apart – both are individual bookings within that day’s schedule.

If you have multiple vehicles due servicing around the same time, you are of course welcome to book them together and enjoy the convenience of having everything completed during a single visit. However, because the Distance Fee is charged per vehicle, there is generally no financial advantage in delaying one vehicle’s service simply to combine appointments. In our view, it is usually more important that each vehicle is serviced when due.

In short, the Distance Fee should be viewed as a contribution towards the operation of our nationwide MobileService, rather than simply a fuel charge for a single journey.

Has the recent increase in fuel prices affected your Distance Fees?

Fuel is one of the largest operating costs within our MobileService division, and increases in diesel prices have a substantial impact on the cost of delivering a nationwide service. A technician travelling to/from a booking 100 miles away can easily consume £40-50 of fuel alone, before vehicle running costs, technician travel time and any overnight accommodation are taken into account.

Despite this, we have chosen not to increase our Distance Fees in response to recent fuel price rises.

We recognise that our customers are facing the same cost pressures in their own lives and businesses, and we do not feel it is right to pass every short-term fluctuation in operating costs directly on to them.

We continually monitor our costs and review our pricing when necessary, but our aim is always to provide a fair, transparent and sustainable nationwide service whilst keeping fees as competitive as possible.

What is your lead time?

Because we cover the entire country, we plan our schedule regionally often months in advance. Servicing for BMW i and MINI electric cars is due every two years, as such many owners book early and our calendar fills up quickly. At present, our next open dates are around 2 months away.

That said, if you’ve left it late or need urgent help (for example, a dead 12V battery), it’s always worth getting in touch. We sometimes have short-notice availability when we’re already in your area — some customers have even had next-day visits just by timing it right!

Over the coming months we will be increasing our fleet of MobileService vans and technicians to help reduce the lead-time and cover the entire country more efficiently.

Will opting for a MobileService mean a compromised experience?

On the contrary, our MobileService should deliver a better experience than a workshop visit. In a traditional setting, technicians are juggling multiple cars and distractions. With MobileService, your technician’s focus is entirely on one thing: you and your car.

You’ll get their full attention and direct communication — they’ll talk you through any findings or updates, giving you insight you’d never get through a service advisor who’s just relaying notes.

Our vans are also comprehensively equipped with both common and uncommon i3 parts — in many cases, more than a main dealer parts department. That means we can complete additional work or replace unexpected parts on the spot, without the delay or overnight stays you’d face at a dealership.

Will servicing my BMW or MINI outside the main dealer network invalidate my warranty?

No – your warranty stays valid as long as the service is carried out correctly. UK law (the Block Exemption Regulation) allows you to use any competent, VAT-registered independent garage, provided they follow BMW’s service schedule and use genuine or equivalent-quality parts.

At Wisely Automotive, all our work is carried out to BMW standards. We use only OEM or OE parts, and as an official BMW Aftersales Partner, your service is recorded on BMW’s system and will appear in your iDrive history. We always recommend keeping your invoices and receipts for future reference.

Do you only use genuine BMW parts?

In most cases, yes.

Wherever possible, we supply and fit genuine BMW parts because they offer the quality, fit and reliability we expect for our customers’ vehicles.

However, over many years of specialising in BMW i3s, we have also identified the original manufacturers behind many genuine BMW components. In some cases, we are able to source the exact same part directly from the original manufacturer at a lower cost than purchasing it in BMW packaging. Where we do this, the saving is passed on to our customers.

There are also certain areas, such as brakes and some suspension components, where we offer both genuine BMW and aftermarket options. In these instances, we have spent years testing and evaluating different products and have settled on a small number of aftermarket manufacturers whose quality, performance and reliability we trust.

Our approach is therefore simple: we fit the parts that we believe offer the best combination of quality, reliability and value. Sometimes that means a genuine BMW part, sometimes it means the exact same component from the original manufacturer, and occasionally it means a carefully selected aftermarket alternative that we believe performs better or represents better value than the genuine BMW option.

Regardless of which option you choose, we will always be transparent about what is being supplied and fitted to your vehicle.

Can I supply my own parts?

In most cases, no.

We only fit parts supplied by Wisely Automotive. This ensures the parts are correct for the vehicle, sourced from reputable suppliers, in-date and covered by our warranty.

Experience has shown that customer-supplied parts are one of the most common causes of delays, incorrect diagnoses, repeat visits and compatibility issues. Even when a part appears correct, there can often be differences in specification, quality or suitability that are not immediately obvious.

For the same reasons, we do not fit or supply second-hand parts. Whilst used parts can occasionally appear to offer a saving, they introduce significant uncertainty regarding condition, remaining lifespan and provenance. As a business, we are simply unable to warranty repairs carried out using second-hand components.

If you already have a part, please let us know before booking and we will advise whether we are able to help. In the vast majority of cases, however, repairs and servicing must be carried out using new parts supplied directly by Wisely Automotive.

What happens if the weather is bad?

We get wet!

Dealing with the British weather is simply part of providing a nationwide mobile service, and over the years we have invested heavily in equipment and procedures that allow us to continue working safely and effectively in less-than-ideal conditions.

Our MobileService vans carry weather protection equipment, specialist lighting and everything else required to ensure work can continue without compromising quality. In the winter months, when daylight hours are limited, we are fully equipped with powerful external lighting so that the show can go on long after the sun has gone down.

Whilst exceptionally severe weather may occasionally force us to rearrange bookings for safety reasons, rain, cold temperatures and dark evenings are all things we routinely work through.

In short, if the weather forecast is looking a little gloomy, there’s usually no need to worry – we’ll still be there.
